[1] Solitary waves in discrete systems; secondary solitary waves; Quasi-equilibrium state
The review S. Sen et al, AIP Conf Proc 658, pp. 357-379 (2003) may be useful
First simulation/argument based prediction that secondary solitary waves must form when solitary waves cross in granular alignments appeared in M. Manciu et al., Phys. Rev E 63, 016614 (2001). Secondary solitary waves were subsequently discovered experimentally and reported in S. Job et al, Phys. Rev. Lett. 94, 178002 (2005)
Work on solitary wave trains appear here - A. Sokolow et al., Europhys. Lett. 77, 24002 (2007) and recent experimental analysis of wave trains will appear in S. Job et al., Gran. Matt. (in press, 2007)
Some recent ones on quasi-equilibrium are -
are T. Krishna Mohan et al., Pramana - J. of Physics 64, pp 423-431 (2005)
E. Avalos et al. Chinese J. Phys. (in press, 2007)
[2] Shock absorption (supported by Army Research Office - Solid Mechanics)
A popular account by David Tenenbaum appears here
A technical write up may be found in A. Sokolow et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 87, 254104 (2005)
and in R. Doney and S. Sen, Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 155502 (2006)

A preliminary account of this work may be found in L. Shanahan and S. Sen, Int. J Mod. Phys. E (in press)
[4] Detection of shallow buried objects in soil (past support from National Science Foundation - Civil and Mechanical Systems)
I was awarded a US Patent on acoustic buried object detection - see S. Sen and M.J. Naughton, US Patent 6418081 (2002)
I wrote a brief review paper on this problem. See S. Sen et al., Int. J. Mod. Phys. B 19, pp 2951-2974 (2005)
Our most recent work is in S. Swaminathan et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 90, 154107 (2007)
[5] Dynamical problems in the physics/biology interface (recent support of pilot by UB2020 Scholar's Fund)
Work is in progress on modeling the development of multiple sclerosis. For a preliminary report see T. Krishna Mohan et al., Int. J. Mod. Phys. E (in press)
[6] Filtration problems (past support from NASA)
The primary work is under preparation for publication at this time and hence not ready for posting.
