Exercise 4.14: The trajectory of the moon is not what you might
expect, see The
Earth & Moon's path around the Sun and The
Orbit of the Moon around the Sun is Convex! To generate this orbit
the initial positions and velocities of the Moon and Earth must be
chosen very precisely. One strategy is to compute the initial
conditions for the Moon and Earth to orbit their common center of
mass, and then add the center-of-mass motion in a Kepler orbit around
the Sun.

Suggestions for completing the assignments
-
Don't submit several pages of raw numerical data. Data sets should
be presented graphically or summarized in a compact table of numbers.
-
If you have written a program yourself, then submit a printout of
the whole program or its interesting sections. If you have modified
one of the supplied programs, indicate the sections you have modified
on the printout.
-
A nice example
of a homework writeup by Dr. Gould of Clark University. Here is
his LaTeX source code: sample.tex. Your
writeup need not be as long as this one: just explain briefly and
clearly what you have learned by completing each exercise.
