Introduction

GEMS (Girls and Guys Exploring Math and Science) on the Go is a new outreach program starting the summer of 2004 and funded in part by an NSF CAREER award and an APS award.  In summer 2005 we are adding an additional program called “Physics Awareness” where a group of students will focus on stand alone exhibits.

The goals of the program are:

§       Increase U.S. science majors, specifically targeting traditionally under represented groups

§       Increase public science awareness

The program consists of 10-11th graders building a portable physical science demonstration exhibit and then presenting the exhibit at public venues.  Eventually the exhibit will be donated to the Buffalo Museum of Science.
