Mike Stamatikos, a UB physics graduate student of Dr. Baur, is on the AMANDA/ICECUBE experiment at the South Pole. AMANDA/ICECUBE telescope detects Cherenkov radiation generated by neutrinos passing through the clear polar ice. Mike is searching for Gamma Ray Bursts, incredibly powerful explosions in the universe which are very poorly understood at the moment. |
