For more than thirty years the New York State Section of the American Physical Society has been organizing semi-annual symposia on timely topics in Physics, intended for the non-specialist. The Fall 2000 symposium will be held at the State University of New York at Buffalo: past symposia were held at SUNY at Buffalo in 1974, 1981, 1987, and 1993.

The format of the meeting will consist of three one-half day sessions devoted to each of the three topics, Cosmology, Strings, and Particle Physics. In each session we plan to have one introductory/tutorial talk, to be followed by several topical talks.

The symposium, jointly sponsored by Buffalo State College and the University at Buffalo, will be held on a Friday afternoon and all day Saturday in an academic setting on the suburban Amherst North Campus of SUNY at Buffalo, which is a short ten-minute drive from Buffalo International Airport and 12 miles from scenic Niagara Falls. The fall colors are expected to be at their best driving to and from Buffalo on Interstate 90 or the Queen Elizabeth Way in late October. Convenient accomodations with a range of prices will be available at the Buffalo Marriott and several other motels clustered around the Maple Road entrance to the Amherst Campus.

Further details will be provided in the first bulletin, which will be mailed in early May.

The conference intends to attract specialists and non-specialists, including students at the graduate and undergraduate level. Financial assistance will be available to help students attend the symposium.
