Friday, October 20 - Saturday, October 21, 2006

The purpose of this Symposium is to celebrate the contributions of Professor Piyare Lal Jain over the past 50 years. The "+" in the Symposium title symbolizes a long history of high energy theory at UB, and the recent establishment a new theoretical cosmology group and a new experimental high energy group. The Symposium also looks to the future of high energy physics and cosmology at UB.

High energy physics done at UB spans a wide range from the early days of cosmic rays and bubble chambers, through fixed-target and collider physics at SLAC, CESR, Fermilab, CERN and other accelerator centers, and heavy-ion physics at Berkeley, CERN and RHIC. Current and future directions include the LHC and the ILC, and the WMAP observations and analysis and planned CMB probes in the future.

Symposium talks by distinguished guests will highlight the past and future of these research areas. A special lecture "What Einstein Did Not Know" by Martin Perl on Friday, October 20 evening will be open to the general public.
